Section 10: Permitted Use and Disclosure of PHI to Family and Friends \u2013 Individual Care and Notification Purposes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The Callier Center may disclose PHI without an authorization to a patient\u2019s family members or friends who are not the patient\u2019s personal representative in the following situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PHI may be disclosed to individuals involved in the patient\u2019s care if the provider or staff member responsibly infers that the patient does not object to the disclosure or the patient cannot consent due to incapacity or emergency.<\/li>
PHI may be disclosed to a person identified by the patient as a person involved in the patient\u2019s care or payment for that care and the patient has not objected to the disclosure.<\/li>
Information describing a patient\u2019s location, general condition or death in cases of incapacity or emergency and only to the extent relevant to the person\u2019s involvement with the patient\u2019s health care.
