This award is presented annually to an individual or group who has contributed significantly to the betterment of the community and to advancing the care of patients with communication disorders.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\nBrent is a model of dedication to the North Texas community and beyond. As president of Children\u2019s Medical Center Foundation, former president and chief executive officer of Communities Foundation of Texas, and as an advisor for national, regional and local initiatives that further philanthropy, Brent has bettered the lives of countless individuals through his leadership.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Steven M. Barlow to Receive the 2019 Callier Prize<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We are pleased to honor Dr. Steven Barlow with the 2019 Callier Prize in Communication Disorders<\/a>. The Callier Prize is a biennial award that recognizes individuals whose leadership and research contributions have promoted scientific advances and significant developments in the diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Barlow is the Corwin Moore Professor in the Department of Special Education and Communication at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has a broad background in biology, speech physiology, neuroscience, biomechanics, and bioengineering applied to sensorimotor neurophysiology and plasticity of orofacial systems across the lifespan in health and disease. Dr. Barlow\u2019s work has led to numerous technological innovations (FDA-approved NTrainer, Galileo Somatosensory, TAC-stim, NeoNNS, ForceWIN) to promote translational neurotherapeutics and motor rehabilitation of orofacial systems in premature infants and adults. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Barlow will be the keynote speaker at the Callier Prize Conference<\/a> on April 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruth and Ken Altshuler created the fund to help children and adults who would otherwise be unable to afford treatment to overcome speech, language and hearing disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
