We are part of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"UT Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.childrens.com\/specialties-services\/specialty-centers-and-programs\/ear-nose-and-throat\/programs-and-services\/utd-callier-cochlear-implant-program\" target=\"_blank\">UT Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program<\/a> which is a collaboration of the UT Dallas Callier Center, UT Southwestern Medical Center, and Children\u2019s Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UT Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program recipients are followed at the Callier Center following surgery.\u00a0 Adults are seen at UT Southwestern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cochlear implants are surgically implanted devices designed for people\nwith severe to profound hearing loss who receive little benefit from hearing\naids. Thousands of adults and children around the world have benefitted from these\nbionic devices.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Howard\u2019s\nStory<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<iframe class=\"alignright\" width=\"334\" height=\"187\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/juHbSMRVx3Q\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Howard Palmer has cochlear implants as a result of profound hearing\nloss in both ears. Mandy and Jaime Palmer, Howard\u2019s parents, discovered his\nhearing loss when he failed the newborn hearing screening in his left ear. The\nPalmers were referred to the Callier Center, where Howard receives a continuum\nof care including audiology services through the Cochlear Implant Program,\nspeech-language therapy, and deaf education in the Callier Child Development\nProgram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Howard has made progress in all areas of development. He is able to\ncommunicate better with his teachers and his peers, and he is able to express\nhis emotions appropriately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know that there is a better place for us and for Howard than\nCallier.
