For more than half a century, the Callier Center for Communication Disorders has transformed the lives of children and adults with speech, language and hearing disorders by giving them the ability to communicate and connect with the world.
The benevolence of community partners and friends has laid the foundation, fueled the expansion and inspired the future of the Callier Center, bettering the lives of the people we serve.
To honor longtime Callier champions The Meadows Foundation and Ruth and Dr. Ken Altshuler, the clinical wings located inside the Callier Center Expansion at The University of Texas at Dallas were recently named the Meadows Foundation Wing and the Altshuler Wing.
“Al Meadows invested in Callier from the beginning, and The Meadows Foundation followed his lead,” said Linda Perryman Evans, president and chief executive officer of The Meadows Foundation.
Established by Virginia and Al Meadows, The Meadows Foundation has contributed to Callier’s growth in Dallas and at UT Dallas, thereby shaping the future of care for patients in North Texas.
Dr. Altshuler and his late wife, Ruth, established the Callier Care Fund to ensure that children and adults could receive treatment regardless of their income level or insurance coverage.
“Having worked with the deaf in New York, I was struck by the dedication and effectiveness of Callier in treating young deaf children,” said Dr. Altshuler, Foundation for the Callier Center board trustee.
Thanks to the Altshulers’ advocacy, thousands of patients have benefited from clinical care.
