Camp CHAT (Communication Habilitation via Audition for Teens)
Camp CHAT is a weekend retreat for teens with hearing loss and their families. Campers will engage in communication activities using the latest digital wireless microphones and technology. Depending on the camp location, campers will also have the opportunity to participate in challenge games, putt-putt golf, team building, horseback riding, new friendships, crafts, hammock relaxing and campfire excitement.
Camp is conducted by a licensed audiologist with the support of graduate student clinicians.

Cost: Submit registration prior to April 1 with $20 deposit per person to reserve a place. If paid in full by April 1, registration fee is only $200 for one teen and one parent and $50 for each additional parent/teen. Deposits will be applied to registration fees. After April 1, registration fee is $225 per parent/teen and $60 for each additional parent/teen.

The University of Texas at Dallas Department of Speech, Language and Hearing will not take custodial responsibility of minors while participating in Camp CHAT. Custodial responsibility will remain with parents, legal guardians and chaperones.
Camp Interact
Camp Interact is a weeklong therapeutic day camp for children entering 2nd – 6th grades with social skill difficulties. Children may have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, social communication disorder, nonverbal learning disorder and/or mild language impairments. The day includes a lesson time, drama, team building, funshops and special activities. Camp is supervised by licensed speech-language pathologists and supported by graduate student clinicians.
Evaluation Requirement: An intake assessment is required for all new campers. The cost of the intake is $50 and is not insurance eligible. The intake assessments are held at the Callier Center in Dallas, 1966 Inwood Road, on Monday through Thursday based on schedule availability.

Camp Interact FlyerSummer Language Camp
Summer Language Camp is a 6-week language therapy program for children with language and learning disorders. This camp will focus on reading and listening comprehension, vocabulary development and narrative language development. It is best if campers are fluent readers in order to participate in activities.
Our goal is to provide a fun learning environment to build children’s language skills. Activities will center around a chapter book and focus on teaching language strategies to improve academic success.
The camp is staffed by UT Dallas graduate students under the supervision of a licensed speech-language pathologist.
Enrollment Instructions: 30-minute intake session must be scheduled. The cost of the intake is $50 and is not insurance eligible. If your child has had speech-language services within the past year, current language goals and recent language testing will be reviewed to determine eligibility for camp. If your child has not had speech-language services within the past year, short testing/assessments will be given to determine eligibility for camp. To schedule, please contact the supervising SLP.

Summer Language Camp FlyerSummer Listening Camp
The annual Summer Listening Camp is a week-long, day camp for children with hearing differences that use hearing technology such as hearing aids or cochlear implants. Typical camp activities such as arts and crafts, music and relay races are used to facilitate the child’s development of speech, language, listening and social skills. The camp is staffed with UT Dallas graduate students in speech pathology and audiology and supervised by licensed speech pathologists and audiologists.

Summer Listening Camp serves children ages 4 to 11. Audiologists, speech-language pathologists and graduate students provide listening and speech-language therapy that is tailored to each child’s individual goals. Therapy is woven throughout each activity including rock wall climbing, fishing, music and dance, arts and crafts and water play.

Summer Reading Camp
Summer Reading Camp is a 6-week program for children who are having difficulty learning to read. The camp will focus on decoding (reading), encoding (spelling), sight words and phonological awareness.
Our goal is to provide a fun yet intensive learning environment to build children’s reading skills. Clinicians will use a multisensory approach to teach phonics and phonemic awareness. Additionally, some instruction on reading comprehension will be provided in order to practice and support the reading experience as a whole.
The camp is staffed by UT Dallas graduate students under the supervision of a licensed speech-language pathologist.
Enrollment Instructions: A 30-minute intake session must be scheduled in order to talk about your goals for your child, expectations for camp and complete paperwork. The cost of the intake is $50 and is not insurance eligible. A reading evaluation is not required, but it is helpful if one has already been completed and results can be sent. All campers will be screened on the first day of camp to determine goals.

Summer Reading CampSummer Intensive Auditory Revitalization Conference (SIARC)
SIARC is a unique opportunity for adults with hearing impairment and their communication partners to experience the benefits of cooperative learning in a social environment. Participants will benefit from the expertise of guest speakers on several occasions during the conference. Topics in the past have included tinnitus, coping skills and assistive listening devices.
Group classes on coping, facilitating communication and how to use new listening technology will be provided each day. Throughout the conference and planned social activities, participants will be able to try digital and programmable hearing aids and use various assistive listening devices that work with hearing aids or cochlear implants. Personnel from the Advanced Hearing Research Center at the Callier Center will present innovations in hearing research and opportunities for research involvement.

Camp Mary Poppins
Campers will participate in musical-themed activities centered around one of the core musical scenes featured in the showcase, “Mary Poppins.” Their activities will include dance, arts/crafts, lighting, makeup, cast visits and costume and prop development, all while learning how to use hearing technology in more environments than just home or school.
On Saturday, campers perform selections from the musical of Mary Poppins for families and then attend the professional production at the Watertower Theatre in Addison, Texas!
Camp Mary Poppins is in collaboration with Watertower Theatre, Broadway Dallas, Hear Us Now, Dr. Linda Thibodeau’s Hearing Health Lab and Dr. Andrea Warner-Czyz’s Children and Infant Listening Lab. Each component is contributing expertise to the camp, which allows for experiences in multiple theatres.
Who: School-aged children (K-12th) with hearing loss and siblings (K-12th).
What to Bring: Drinks will be provided. Campers need to bring a sack lunch, snacks and their hearing technology.
When: July 18 – 19: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and July 20 at 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for the camp show and professional musical show.
