During the last 30 years, Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs have been implemented throughout the United States, and 98% of all newborns are now screened for hearing loss. However, a number of challenges and opportunities for improvement remain. This presentation summarized the history of newborn hearing screening, described the current status, and discussed some of the important challenges and emerging issues that could be addressed to further improve early identification of childhood hearing loss.
