About the Luncheon
Proceeds Will Benefit Patients in Need through the Callier Care Fund
Ruth and Ken Altshuler created the Callier Care Fund to ensure that children and adults would have access to essential care regardless of their income level or insurance coverage. Because of the Altshulers’ benevolence, these patients have the opportunity to overcome speech, language and hearing disorders, so that they may hear, speak and connect with the world.
Sarah Losinger to Receive the 2024 Ruth and Ken Altshuler Callier Care Award.
We are privileged to honor Sarah Losinger with the 2024 Ruth and Ken Altshuler Callier Care Award. This award is presented annually to an individual or group who has contributed significantly to the betterment of the community and to advancing the care of patients with communication disorders. Sarah Losinger has been inspired to serve others since a young age, influenced by her parents’ volunteerism in their community. Her family’s foundation, the John R. McCune Charitable Trust, has a profound legacy of giving back. Sarah’s extensive volunteer work and philanthropy in Dallas, including her 12-year contribution to the Callier Center, have had a significant impact. Her involvement in various initiatives such as the Callier Cares Luncheon, Patient Emergency Fund, Evergreen Fund, and Special Connections Endowment, and as a Premium Ambassador for the Callier Ambassador group, have greatly supported the Center’s mission and benefited many individuals and families affected by communication disorders.
Dr. Rebecca Landa to Receive the 2024 Campbell Callier Prize
We are pleased to honor Dr. Rebecca Landa with the 2024 Campbell Callier Prize. The Thomas F. Campbell Callier Prize in Communication Disorders is a biennial award recognizing individuals for their leadership in fostering scientific advances and significant developments in the diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders.
Dr. Landa is the founder and executive director of the Center for Autism Services, Science, and Innovation (previously known as CARD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute, where she is vice president. She is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Landa obtained her doctorate from the University of Washington. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Psychiatric Genetics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Dr. Landa has practiced clinically in public schools, university clinics and hospital settings. She consults with schools, universities, and families internationally to establish state-of-the-science educational and speech-language pathology programming for children with, or at risk for, communication disorders, including autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Landa takes a translational science and public health approach in her measure development, early detection, developmental science, intervention science, and implementation science research. She participates in policy-related efforts to improve health care and education for children with, or at risk for, communication disorders.
Hosted by the Foundation for the Callier Center, the Callier Cares Luncheon is the Callier Center’s signature annual fundraising event. The purpose of the luncheon is to raise resources through the Callier Care Fund to benefit children and adults who otherwise could not afford clinical care to overcome speech, language and hearing disorders.
